China to Reduce Trademark Renewal Fees

The State Council of China held a conference on April 3, 2019 and decided to lower the official fees related to patent and trademark prosecution. According to the State Council’s decision, trademark renewal fees will be cut from CNY1,000 down to CNY500 from July 1, 2019 onwards. In view of such policy, Chofn would suggest trademark holders, whenever applicable, to hold off renewing a Chinese trademark until July 1, 2019.

Official fees related to patent applications and annuities may also be reduced, but no specific amount was announced so far.
