China received 1.315 million trademark applications first half 2015

According to the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC), registration of trademark witnessed a rapid growth. In the first half of 2015, newly filed trademark applications amounted to 1.315 million, an increase by 27.3% year on year. And, altogether 1.081 million applications were examined. By the end of June, applications totaled 16.84 million. The accumulated registrations totaled 11.25 million, with 9.519 million registrations in effect.

 

The Administrations for Industry and Commerce investigated and dealt with a total of 199,000 cases involving disturbing competitive market order, a decrease by 29.6% year on year. The decrease slows down compared with 39.48% last year. The total value of all cases reached 3.49 billion yuan, a decrease by 28.0%; the sum that was confiscated reached 1.35 billion yuan, a decrease by 51.5%. Among all these, 15,000 cases involving IP infringement were investigated in accordance with the Anti-Unfair Competition Law and Trademark Law, accounting for 7.5% of all those cases related to disturbing competitive market order, realizing a relative increase compared with 7.2% of last year. The number of cases involving bad-faith registration reached 5,000, a 1.9-fold increase. The traditional industries of garments, shoes and hats suffered more bad-faith piracy.
