Good News: China to Shorten TM Examination to 4 Months

According to the China National IP Administration (CNIPA), 8.253 million new trademark applications were examined in 2019, and the examination duration has been shorted to 4.5 months on average. Of the sampled cases of substantial examination, 96.08% are qualified. In 2020, the CNIPA will deepen its reform to facilitate trademark registration and shorten the examination duration to less than 4 months.


Moreover, the CNIPA plans to open online function for trademark invalidation, opposition, non-use cancellation within this year. It also plans to make The Rules for Examining Bad-Faith Applications Without Intention to Use to expedite full attack against trademark warehousing and bad-faith applications.
